Tornatore Pietrarizzo Etna Bianco 2016

13.5% ABV Where to find: LCBO #632489

Etna Bianco is a an Italian white wine from the Mount Etna area of Sicily (yes - the "still-active volcano" Mount Etna). While these can often be made as a blend, this example is 100% only Carricante grape (which is the local grape of the region). Carricante may not yet be a household name with regards to white wine, but it should be. Medium lemon in colour and medium bodied, this complex and snappy wine gives off aroma's & flavours of lemon, grapefruit and orange citrus, accompanied by ripe pineapple, pear, pear, vanilla and some flinty minerality (i.e. an almost sense of smoke). DOC on the label indicates low yield growing which in turn = quality.. Mouthwatering, balanced and well made (grapes were all hand harvested and hand sorted). If you see this on a menu, try it. If you see it in a store, buy it. wines from this region are able to be stored for up to 10 years - no reason not to stock up if you can ! Enjoy with pasta and scallion cream sauce.
