El Enemigo Bonarda 2014

13.9% ABV Where to find: LCBO #629782

Bonarda is Argentina’s second most planted red grape and while traditionally used as a blending partner, here it spreads its wings as a single varietal. This example from La Esperanza in Mendoza, is deep purple in colour, with full fruity aromas of black cherry, cassis, black raspberry and subtle notes of smoke, tar, powdered chocolate and baking spice. Juicy and medium-light bodied, flavours of dark berries and black plum dominate on the palate followed by hints of cedar, mocha and a kiss of dried mint. Vibrant with a touch of ‘zip”, this is a fun alternative for a good “drink now wine”, that would be best enjoyed alongside a hearty Bolognese sauce or a roast of lamb.
